snsd said at an interview a long time ago that they got their name from a
staff’s suggestion, maybe the staff got the idea from lee sung chul? ㅋㅋ

Basically, yes. I think that people at SM were brainstorming four-syllable
names (in the mold of Dong Bang Shin Ki) and “So Nyeo Shi Dae” popped out.
It was a pretty big hit for Lee Seung Chul (AFAIK) in Korea in 1989 and the
name just seemed to fit, as well as the lyrics.
