of the SNSD members were born) and in 2007, smtown based the group name off
of this song

It’s obviously that he is godfather of SNSD, how sweet that most of the
girls were born in 1989. when this song was a hit. Someone from SM
entertainment was so clever to give the name of the group by his song and
to record it with girls. Change of generation is on the scene. I would also
like to say what a great job SM entertainment does with SNSD, SUJU & other
groups under their management.

In 1989, Lee Seung Chul released his song “소녀시대” (pronounced So Nyuh Shi
Dae or translated to Girls Generation in English). In 2007, SM made a group
using that name and debuted, they also released a cover of the original Lee
Seung Chul song.
